Boa Vista Park – Alberto Simões
SÃO JOSÉ DOS CAMPOS – SÃO PAULO
An adventure park
The implementation of the new Boa Vista Park (also known as Parque Alberto Simões) takes place from São José dos Campos Urban Structuring Program, an initiative signed between the City Hall and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
Although the rugged topography of the terrain represents one of the biggest challenges of the project, it is an important factor that helps to consolidate the architectural and landscape purpose as the great highlight of the park, conceived from attractions aimed at the practice of extreme sports, such as zip lines, tree climbing, climbing, skating rinks and BMX.
The project, which won an Honorable Mention at the IAB / SP 2012 award, covered the development of basic and executive projects for architecture, landscaping and complementary. One of the partners in Natureza Urbana was the general coordinator of this project by IDOM, inviting team members to participate by IDOM.
The park’s implantation locates the main house of the Fazenda Boa Vista, whose preservation was one of the goals of the project, as well as the preservation of the massive pre-existing pine vegetation on the land.
The rugged topography, identified in the 40 meters drop between the high and low part of the lot, offers views of the entire city over the Paraíba River from the highest part of the park. This realization guided the concept of the project: a circular element capable of uniting different spaces and dimensions, allowing interaction between the different points of the program and the creation of spaces for living, leisure and contemplation.
In this way, we sought to promote a harmonious intervention with the natural topography, with the pine trees and with the existing water eyes. The single circuit, of elevated paths and walkways of metallic structure, runs through the entire park and distributes the program, conforming now as a bridge, pavement, leisure structure, furniture, or playground.
