Masterplan Araucária
CAMPOS DO JORDÃO – SÃO PAULO
Immersive accommodation and ecotourism in Campos do Jordão
In one of the most iconic destinations near the Serra da Mantiqueira, the project integrates tourism, hospitality, and gastronomic experiences in harmony with the local landscape and biodiversity. The goal is to establish Sítio Mata Comprida as a model of responsible tourism development—one that respects and highlights the natural and cultural characteristics of the region.
The Masterplan for Sítio Mata Comprida, located in Campos do Jordão, São Paulo, proposes transforming a 27.6-hectare area into an immersive, innovative, and regenerative tourist destination, aligned with ecotourism and the appreciation of local culture.
The proposed development for Sítio Mata Comprida embraces the “site-specific” concept, where spaces and experiences are designed to fully integrate with the natural and distinctive environment of the region: hills and valleys, bodies of water, natural viewpoints, high-altitude grasslands, and abundant vegetation.

Most of the buildings are elevated on stilts, minimizing impact on the soil and allowing the passage of local fauna and flora. The choice of materials—such as reforested wood and pine nut husks—respects natural cycles and reinforces the project’s commitment to sustainability. The architecture and design harmonize with the landscape, using colors and textures that blend into the surroundings while highlighting the araucaria tree, a symbol of the region’s native vegetation.
The araucaria, a native tree of the region, is a central element in the Masterplan’s concept. Its towering growth and unique form inspire the design of the buildings, which seek to integrate with the environment, promote regeneration, and respect natural cycles.
The use of pine nut husk as a construction material and the selection of a color palette that mimics the natural surroundings further strengthen the project’s connection to the landscape and reinforce its ties to the local identity.

The project follows the principles of regenerative development, approaching the territory as an integrated system in which the development interacts with natural elements, local traditions, and social dynamics.

The conscious use of renewable resources, the appreciation of local potential, and participatory processes are fundamental to ensuring the sustainability and prosperity of the territory. The proposal aims to eliminate negative environmental and socio-economic impacts, promoting inclusive tourism that benefits both the community and the ecosystem.

The proposed infrastructures include trails, elevated walkways, observation towers, cabins, and lodges—all designed to provide an immersive nature experience while minimizing environmental impact.

The Museu do Pinhão, dedicated to the local culture and ecosystem, will offer sensory activities such as interpretive trails and tastings of pine nut-based products. Common areas and event spaces will also be included, fostering integration between visitors and the local community.

From an economic perspective, the Masterplan includes revenue diversification through lodging, gastronomic experiences, ecotourism, and the sale of local products, ensuring the financial viability of the project and its long-term sustainability. Responsible management of natural resources and collaboration with the local community are pillars of this strategy, aiming for inclusive and balanced development.

Finally, the Masterplan for Sítio Mata Comprida is an initiative that seeks to promote sustainable, responsible, and regenerative tourism, offering unique and transformative experiences to visitors. By valuing the local nature and culture, the project positions itself as a model of tourism development that respects the environment and benefits the community, leaving a positive and lasting legacy for Campos do Jordão.
