A landmark between Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina
Foz do Iguaçu is a recognized destination for holidays, business and international events. The municipality has several tourist attractions, with emphasis on two centers: Waterfalls, with the Iguaçu National Park, the Bird Park and the Wax Museum; and Itaipu, with the Itaipu Plant, the Ecomuseum and the Buddhist Temple.
The Marco das Três Fronteiras, despite being located outside the two main centers of visitation, has a privileged location: close to the Paraná and Iguaçu rivers, it overlooks Paraguay and Argentina and has easy access to the hotel chain, concentrated in the central region of the municipality.
The study aimed to carry out a project to develop the potential of the place as a new tourist pole, strengthening the potential of the area with the qualification of the border and connection with the rivers and expansion of the tourist offer of the Marco das Três Fronteiras. A feasibility study was developed with a zoning proposal and new attractions for the complex and studies of the implementation of the proposed activities.
The Marco das Três Fronteiras region presents a unique landscape, with rich biodiversity and great natural beauty.
At the time of the development of the project, the main attractions of the place were made up of Praça do Obelisco, with cultural shows and other presentations; the scenic village with an exhibition on local history and the Cabeza de Vaca restaurant, offering a menu of regional cuisine. The objective of the project was to study possibilities to enrich the space with new attractions and tourist services, strengthen visitation on the triple frontier, expand the visitor’s experience with the natural landscape and promote environmental education, enhance the borders of rivers and the unique landscape of the place.
Two possible regions have been identified for the potential to increase the tourist diversity of the complex, in addition to the existing infrastructures, however unused, such as the Americas Space. Thus, a set of new leisure and tourism attractions integrated with Nature was proposed; interventions for greater integration of Marco das Três Fronteiras with the Iguaçu and Paraná rivers; new access infrastructure and arrival place.
In order to enhance the existing infrastructure (Marco and Espaço das Américas), a series of new attractions is proposed, such as a lodging complex in the midst of nature, thermal park, adventure park, public square and linear park along the waterfront and marine.
